MOCA Toronto reopened in its new 55,000 square foot home in the Junction Triangle on September 22, 2018. The new MOCA Toronto is a place of conversation, exchange and exploration where visitors of all ages and backgrounds can be part of a global creative moment.

MOCA welcomes visitors to three phases of exhibitions a year featuring work from Canadian and world-recognized artists that explores the themes of our time. Located on Sterling Road, in the culturally rich Junction Triangle community, the museum is housed in the historic Tower Automotive Building, a former aluminium factory known for its unique architecture.

Position Summary

MOCA Toronto is looking to add a Production and Programming Assistant to its program team. The incumbent will support the production and realization of the exhibitions and public programs that make MOCA an accessible, responsive, and engaging museum for Toronto’s diverse, intergenerational community.

The Production and Programming Assistant will work closely with the program team on a diverse range of exhibitions and events, from concept to installation. The incumbent will be responsible for all production and registrar support. Many of MOCA’s programs support the creation of new art works and this role will focus on all administration and any specific research required to enable these new commissions, as well as facilitating the loan/ production support and installation needs of existing works. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills, with strong intuition and an ability to problem solve.


  • Administrative aspects of exhibitions and new commissions – including loan agreements and artist agreements
  • Production of new commissions, including: research, sourcing materials, gaining quotes and arranging print/framing/production as required
  • Registrar activities: including the organization of art transport both international and local, and coordinating condition reporting
  • Development of checklists and floor plans with Head Technician
  • Managing production budgets
  • Organizing travel, accommodation and hosting for visiting artists and arts professionals

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in either museum, curatorial, education studies, art history, journalism, or equivalent experience and training; a minimum of two years working in a museum, or cultural institution or equivalent
  • Previous experience working on the production of art exhibitions, with knowledge of AV equipment and installation techniques desirable
  • Registrar experience: organizing international transport, insurance and condition reporting
  • Knowledge of visual arts, culture-at-large and pop culture. Clear understanding of how there is overlap in the production, dissemination and consumption of these in the contemporary world
  • Exceptional written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently and quickly, as well as a clear ability to prioritize and work efficiently
