NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA AT THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY CANADIAN ART

How the store becomes front to an all-powerful global marketplace for which, in the time-being at least, the mall remains its congregational epicentre is a theme that runs through the photographs, video and sculptures in this exhibition featuring three important female voices in art today: Vancouver’s Vikky Alexander, and New York-based artists Josephine Meckseper and Jenny Holzer. Together, the works in Store/Fronts force contemplation on contemporary distinctions between public and private life, and the ever-eroding line separating citizens from consumers.
